No idea but they have great food and they're still open for breakfast and lunch.
This was my first time eating here; my family has been many times and it is always a staple restaurant that they visit when they come down here. First off, our server was phenomenal. He was personable, very friendly and treated us like family. The atmosphere is relaxed. The food, is amazing! We ordered wet contodo's; the tortillas are delicious warm with butter and honey as well! Definitely a must stop (at least once) when in South Padre Island, Texas!
Went for breakfast on a Saturday. Long wait but worth it. My teenager ordered 3 breakfast tacos. The waiter smirked and said we'll revisit after the first one. Needless to say we never had to revisit the issue!
Such a cool place! The tacos are huge! My wife and I split one. We were full! Manuel too our order and advised us to split one. This is the largest taco I've ever seen. Payment is cash only.
This place is behind Main Street to the bridge. Small place - maybe 14 tables and always a line. Only takes cash. Meals made fresh so expect a wait for your food... and expect a wait for a table if you go during “meal” hours. Serves breakfast all day as well as Mexican dishes. Their hot sauce is hot and you can buy a pint for $5. Chips are the crisp ones - not greasy. Order something with a tostados as they are fresh and huge. I got the chili rellenos and my husband got the low carb omelette. Both were excellent. Service was friendly and attentive for a busy place. BUT do expect wait for your food. No frills - just tasty! UPDATE. If you are really hungry go for the ConTodo - several varieties: beef, chicken or shrimp. YUM
A very homey atmosphere with great food! Only downside was needing to have cash. But no worries because they had an ATM in the building. The service was comfortable and friendly. Made the kids feel at home.
I never get tired of Manuel’s. I love the food. The service is the best. The contoldo is amazing. I have been going there for almost 17 years. They are the best restaurant in south Texas hands down.
Excellent food, great service and comfortable prices. The place is fun, cozy and welcoming too. Just wish they sold Bud Light Lime to wash down the delicious Green Enchiladas!
Oh WOW. That has to be not only the largest but also the best breakfast taco I have ever had. Friendly staff and it's also a joy to see the tortillas made fresh in house. I cannot wait to visit again, I have already recommended to all my friends and family.
Review based on my first visit/experience here on May 26th 2019. Parking is limited, and so are tables to dine in. NOTE: CASH ONLY!!! Our wait time was 45 minutes from sign in to sitting down. Servers were quick to attend and the food was delicious. Try the breakfast taco. One big taco for even those with the greatest appetite would be satisfied with. Pancakes are huge, two is enough. And french toast was delicious according to my 3 yr old son. If you have time to wait it's worth it. If not you can order for pickup.
The food and service are good, but it's a long wait when other restaurants are serving almost the exact same size tacos and servings. They only accept cash. There are several restaurants similar to this. I would give them a try as well.
Yes, go here! Not only is their food delicious the ambiance of the restaurant will make you want to stay and eat and never go home. I'm from San Antonio and visited this lovely restaurant on the way back home from South Padre Island. Just remember to bring your cash, no cards accepted here. They do have an ATM for convenience though.
We came because it was suggested and it did not disappoint! The staff felt like family, food tastes like my abuelitas cooking! An overall wonderful atmosphere.
OMG my mouth was so happy! The flour tortillas are handmade fresh, and clearly all the ingredients are fresh and high quality. It was so good I nearly forgot to take pictures. I had the chorizo egg tortilla, hubby had steak and eggs, kid had French toast! It's really worth the visit. Oh, and the coffee cup never made it midway. It got constantly topped off.
Best breakfast tacos - periodt!
Awesome portions. Everthing muy delicioso! Special homemade salsa.
It might look like a plain and old little place but don't let that fool you. They have fantastic Mexican food. I normally do not like red sauce but the home made sauce here is delicious. People are often lined up waiting to get in. The wait staff is friendly and helpful...and fast.
The sitting is limited so you have to wait a while, but it is worth the wait because the food is delicious.
Manuel's is a family favorite! You definitely need to stop here and eat. Food & atmosphere is great! People that work here are friendly! Manuel his self waited on us, how awesome is that!!
Best authentic Mexican food and the staff makes you feel like family.
Awesome breakfast tacos! Great customer service!
This place is great. Everything from the food to the service. Parking lot is small and so is the restaurant and it is cash only. There is an ATM inside the restaurant though.
I seldom take the time to review anything, but when I’m as thrilled as I am with something, as well as unanimous consensus with the rest of my family, I feel compelled to do so. This is the second time we’ve eaten at Manuel’s and even though the first time was just as fantastic, this time we couldn’t pass up the opportunity. My kids about halfway through the meal couldn’t resist any longer and one after the other blurted out “We should give them 5 stars!” My wife and I have also talked about the drive from Houston to SPI being worth it to get some Manuel’s. So with that, 5 stars times 5!! Great job Manuel’s. We will see you next time we’re down here, for sure!!!
WOW! Awesome burritos. They are HUGE and so good. Don't miss this one!
Manuels is always wonderful. Love the multi generational Family that runs it. They always treat us like family. WE LOVE IT!
Wish it wasn't take out only. Still the best breakfast around because of their flower tortillas.
Stopped for breakfast on Sunday morning after a weekend at the beach. Got to meet Manuel the owner as he was talking orders. While busy theqthey did not take long to sit us down. I ordered the machacado with egg a-la Mexicana. Coffee was served hot and they checked on us frequently. Breakfast was served quickly with the largest homemade tortillas I had seen in a while. Service was great and prices are reasonable.
Awesome food, super big portions for the price and friendly staff. Real quaint and "old school" feel restaurant. Great tourist spot and quality choice if you're hungry.
Amazing food!! Salsa is so good as well! Tacos are huge! +++++
Love their breakfast tacos!! One taco is enough for two meals. They helped me get through the zombie apocalypse of 2020!!
Great place for breakfast. Migas are some of the best in the state. Huge flower tortillas also. A item call “con todo” is a off menu dish that is a must try while in town
Huge tacos, great quality and worth the wait if there is one. Recommend to call ahead!!
Wow excellent food. Large quantity, good price, fresh. The way mexican food suppose to be. Will recommend everyone to go and try it.
The burrito is good. The flour tortillas one of the best ones
A perfect hole in the wall treasure. Was recommended by a friend of ours who has been to South Padre before, and I will recommend it to others who come to visit. The food options are as big as Texas; Just make sure your appetite is as well. Don't fill up on the chips and salsa; or as they call it in Texas, hot sauce. Flavors are great and don't necessarily need any additional salt or pepper. Prices are reasonable. And yes they do take credit and debit cards now. They started doing so 4 days ago. Service is friendly and respectful. Try their giant taco or taco wrap. Can't go wrong
Huge tacos, super filling, tasty ingredients and salsa. Really friendly owners and felt very homey!
The food is good but I don't like the fact that they roll tortillas right next to the restroom. It would be best to have a barrier between the tortilla station and the restroom. But perhaps it's the particulates that give the flavor.
This was the best Mexican food on the island! Not too pricey, big portions. Cash only though. Definitely coming back.
Small, quaint little Mexican restaurant serving some really big breakfast burritos. Friendly servers and delicious food. They also sell their yummy fresh made salsas to go in mason jars!
It’s a really nice place with live music and a very good menu and good tasting food. We were there for the brunch or late breakfast at 10am on Sunday as a family with two 8yrs old kids and loved the food. Service was fast, singing lady was lovely and prices were competitive. Overall I would definitely recommend. Average price for breakfast is $12-14 per meal.
Outstanding authentic Mexican food and much more! The restaurant is a small homey place with very friendly service and a large menu for just a breakfast and lunch place. Their homemade salsa is amazing and available for purchase for $5. The portion sizes are huge so consider splitting a meal if you don’t want amazing leftovers. They do not serve alcoholic beverages but you can bring your own. Also they only take cash. I ordered the Wet Burrito and was amazed. I have been eating wet burritos occasionally since 1978 when I discovered what I thought was the very best one in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Manuel’s Wet Burrito now owns the Number 1 spot!!!
Amazing food, burrito is where it's at. Can make you're own combo. Migas and Sausage with Cheese. Yum
GREAT food. When you walk in, they make you feel as they have known you for years. The price is in line as any other small town restaurant, but they serve more food than most other places. I will be eating there often.
Manuel's is the absolute best place to grab tacos, very popular place so be prepared to wait, but the wait is worth it. Super friendly staff, always a trusted favorite when we visit SPI
Always a must stop when in town. Fresh tortillas and huge tacos! Don't forget the enchilada wrap and sauce
Food was awesome and the owners were very friendy.
If you go to South Padre, you HAVE TO eat at Manuels. Breakfast or Lunch, this place is awesome!!!
TACOS! Very good and very quick. Port Isabel has some tough competition when it comes to Tex-Mex and Manuel's isn't going anywhere.
So our awesome waiter from Blackbeard's recommended Manuels for breakfast. Our last morning on SPI we drove across the Causeway to eat breakfast in Port Isabel. It was so delicious and affordable! Such friendly owner and Hope was an amazing server. They have huge breakfast tacos. Everything was great, even the coffee. See pictures.
This restaurant was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint! The people are some of the friendliest I've ever met and the service was absolutely terrific. Now, the food..... Come here prepared to feast. The tacos are massive. The pancakes were huge. Everything was delicious. We will be back, but we will be splitting a meal next time
I heard about this place on a Facebook list of South Padre Island recommended places to eat. I had a great experience here. We went for a little vacation from Houston, Texas. I was not disappointed at all! There was a long wait, but it was well worth it! The food was delicious and Mr. Manuel himself took our order and served us. Wonderful people and great food. 🙂 He even took the time to take a picture with me. ❤
